Shawna Lawson is the Director of Research and Social Innovation at viaSport and holds a Master’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia. She leads viaSport in developing strategy, designing and executing research and development practices that increase the likelihood for positive change within the B.C. sport sector. Specialties include social innovation, critical sport studies, qualitative research methodology, design thinking, participatory research methods, evaluation and survey design, workshop facilitation, public speaking, writing and storytelling. Her approach is research-centered, solutions based and laser focused on positive change.
Inclusion viaSport: Diversifying the Sport Experience
As a sector, we are aware of the need to increase participation of under-represented groups and create a sport system in Canada that better reflects the diversity of our population. In doing so, we must also understand how to ensure experiences are safe, inclusive, and meaningful. This presentation will share different approaches and insights gained through various viaSport projects related to engaging targeted populations.
