John Herdman, ChPC - Soccer 

In 2016, Canada Soccer’s Women’s National (CanWNT) team earned its most wins in a calendar year (15) and achieved a number of firsts:

  • 1st Canadian Summer Team Sport to win back-to-back Olympic medals in over 100 years;
  • 1st women’s team ever repeat on the Olympic podium;
  • 1st Canadian Team to win the group in Olympic Football;
  • 1st Canadian team to win all 3 group matches in Olympic Football;
  • 1st Canadian team to win the prestigious invitational Algarve Cup in Portugal; and
  • 1st Canadian team to be ranked in the top 5 of the FIFA Coca Cola World Ranking after defeating three top five teams at the Rio Olympics, including three confederation champions (Canada entered the tournament ranked 10th). 

A nominee for the 2012, 2015, and 2016 FIFA Coach of the Year Award, Herdman stresses the importance of developing a high-performance culture, learning to overcome adversity with grace, and the role of leaders to inspire trust, confidence, and success.
