Coach's Name: Judy Hale
Athlete's Name: André Boudreau
Position/Team/Club/Sport: Biathlon PEI
What does your coach do that makes him/her a great coach?
Judy is somebody who is super easily approachable. She is always so calm about everything that she does and not matter how busy she is she always seems to have it in her to be in multiple places at once. She is like nobody else. She cares about everything that is going on with the team and each and every individual athlete which takes a very specific set of skills to do. She understands what each athlete needs to succeed and knows how to get through to each athlete so they can achieve the greatest result possible.
Write a memory/story about your coach.
At Canada games I had a total breakdown on the first warm up day. I had broken equipment and had had two bad crashes within the first day. I was just a mess and she pulled me aside and just made me calm down and think about the good things. When nobody else could get through she got through and everything was better.
What lesson(s) has your coach instilled in you?
The biggest lesson is probably that no matter how much went wrong in the race or the training session. There is always something that has gone right and that is the important part. Learn from your mistakes an capitalize on the things you did right.
Why do you want to say “thanks, coach”?
I want to say thanks to Judy because she has gotten me and the team through some pretty bad situations and she know we have it if we want it. She is one of those few people that you know love what they’re doing by how much time they put into the sport as a volunteer. Judy I can’t thank you enough for everything you've done for me and the sport of biathlon within PEI.
