National Coaching Institutes

Canada’s seven National Coaching Institutes (NCIs) offer programs that give coaches the opportunity to learn from a variety of experts in the fields of coaching, sport science, leadership, business, and technology while sharing experiences and strategies with fellow coaches.

The programs available to National Sport Organization-approved Level 4 candidates are:

  • One-year program at the NCI-BC
  • Two-year program at the NCI's in Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, or Calgary
  • A customized program at one or more NCIs, or for an extended period of study

An NCI diploma in High Performance Coaching may lead to NCCP Level 4 certification with the approval of the candidate’s NSO.

Eligible candidates must be NCCP Level 3 certified, an NSO-approved Level 4 candidate, and have a minimum three years of coaching experience in a year-round training program. An undergraduate degree in physical education is recommended, but not required.

The deadline for receipt of NCI applications is May 1. Late applications will be considered on the basis of space availability.
