INTRODUCTION
We want to follow-up on this year's Petro-Canada Sport Leadership
sportif conference by taking up the challenge that Frank Dick presented
to us in the Sunday morning plenary: To contribute to the Winning
Difference in Canada's development as a Leading Sport Nation. Below
is a letter from Frank urging us to continue our personal development.
We would like each of you to share one action that you will undertake
to improve your contribution to Canadian Sport. We will then post
these actions on our Winning Difference notice board. Over time,
our goal will be to develop a notice board that shares with the
sport community the key learnings from these initiatives. This means
that we will be back in touch prior to next year's conference to
ask for an update on your progress.

| Dear
Superstar!
Just
when you thought it was safe to go out at night...I'm
back! First, I'd like to thank you for the warmth of
the welcome I enjoyed to Quebec.
It
really was a great Conference. Judging by comment following
the event, it appears that there is general agreement
on the advantage of leveraging interdependence to learn
faster in delivering leadership roles even more effectively
in Canadian sport. Lorraine, John and I looked at how
best to build on that, and came up with this idea: Whether
it is hitting our milestones or investing in our future,
it is our personal responsibility to do so. Each of
us owns that; to be the winning difference, to add the
extra point.

Mac Hickox
Contractor CanoeKayak Canada |
| One of the key partnerships in sport is and always has been - the coach/athlete relationship. In my role with CAC's Competition – Development Task Force I am committed to assisting coaches to recognize the need to stay on top of current trends and new findings in sport science, as well as to challenge their athletes to be increasingly self-reliant in their preparation to succeed.
Podium performances are the not only the result of a tremendous effort on the part of the coach/athlete relationship, but also on the development of a strong team network supporting them. I am committed to assisting developing coaches to understand this team approach through my work in coach education. |

Executive Director Lutte Canada Wrestling |
| I will seek to build consensus around a new model of high performance governance that will allow the national coaches to have the greatest support and resources available to them to achieve the performance objectives of the association. At the same time, we will provide greater opportunities for personal/club coaches to contribute their expertise and knowledge to the planning of the national program on an annual basis for both the high performance and developmental levels of our program.
Believe me, this is a mountain that we need to climb together! |

Doug Krochak
Master Learning Facilitator Manitoba |
| Frank emphasized team work and interdependence. To these ends I will work to re-establish the Master Learning Facilitator committee in Manitoba. In the past we had a Master Course Conductor committee but people have moved on and leadership has changed.
The committee will be comprised of LFs with varying levels of experience in the competency-based approach. The challenge of the committee will be to direct the implementation of the multi-sport modules and plan and direct LF training. |

As emphasized by Frank in his description of teamwork and interdependence, I'm going to strengthen our partnerships with the provinces/territories and national sport organizations to improve CAC services to its partners. Specifically, I'm going to: - Link with the Canada Games Council to determine commonalities in our relationships with partner groups and learn their best practices.
- Work with the provinces/territories to assist in the creation of the P/T Coaching Structures.
