2010 Criteria

Coaches whose Canadian athletes or teams win gold, silver, or bronze medals while competing in an Open World Championship, the Olympic Games, the Special Olympics World Games, or the Paralympic Games are eligible for this award. (A minimum of 8 countries must have competed in the preliminary round of competition at Open World Championships, the Olympic Games, or the Paralympics Games and have been eligible for a medal. A minimum of 6 countries must have competed in the preliminary round of competition at Special Olympics World Games and have been eligible for a medal.)
NOTE: Age group World Championships, Junior World Championships, and World
Cups ARE NOT qualifying events.
- be NCCP Level 3 or Competition – Development certified (NOTE: Special Olympics coaches must be NCCP Level 2 or Competition – Introduction certified);
- be a Canadian citizen, a Canadian resident, or a landed immigrant who contributes to the Canadian sport system;
- have worked on a regular basis with the medal-winning athlete or team as either head, assistant, or personal coach. (Only ONE coach will be awarded for each medal-winning performance.)
- Written appeals will be considered in those instances where:
- an athlete is coached by both a national team coach and a personal coach;
- a COACH meets most, but not all, of the aforementioned criteria.
In such cases, please submit the nomination with a cover letter outlining why this coach is deserving of the award. The decision of the Selection Committee will be final.

Documented evidence verifying the medal-winning performance and the number of entries must accompany the nomination.

National Sport Organizations are responsible for nominating eligible coaches and for ensuring the nomination is supported by the athlete or team.
The closing date for nominations is October 8, 2010.
