Geoff Gowan Award

Recognizing lifetime contribution to coaching development

Criteria

To qualify for an award, a coach must:

  • be minimum NCCP Level 3 certified or Competition – Development certified;
  • have a minimum of 15 years of coaching experience;
  • have demonstrated commitment to coach education in Canada (ex. Course Conductor, Learning Facilitator, development of materials, coaching committees, other professional development activities);
  • have contributed significantly to sport development in Canada (ex. officiating, representation on sport committees, writing publications, other professional development activities aside from coaching);
  • have demonstrated concern for the holistic development of the athlete by helping to balance sport, social, and educational needs and develop confidence, self-discipline, and respect;
  • have achieved measurable improvement of athlete/team/club performance and/or increased participation;
  • have received recognition of achievements (please list awards/achievements).

 

Nominations should include:

  • nominator’s position and contact information

  • coach’s contact information (postal address and daytime phone number)

  • coach’s bio

  • coach’s NCCP transcript

  • all information that supports the above criteria


CAC will accept nominations from the sport community until August 3, 2010.

All nominations must be submitted electronically (Word or pdf format) to GeoffGowanAward@coach.ca.

 

Selection Process

The CAC Board of Directors will review all nominations put forward by the deadline, as well as those that were put forward the previous two years but were not successful. The Board will select a maximum of two recipients per year.

If successful, both the nominator(s) and the receipient(s) will be contacted by CAC by phone by mid-September. The award will be presented at the annual awards ceremony at the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference. The recipient(s) will receive:

  • a personalized trophy

  • travel to and accommodation at Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif

  • free registration for Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif (includes one ticket for awards ceremony)

  • one guest ticket to awards ceremony

If unsuccessful, only the nominator will be sent a letter of decision by mid-September. Nominations will be kept on file and considered for the next two years.
