Stage of Activity

Equipment

Variable (to make an obstacle course)

Time

10 - 15 minutes

Number of People

2+

How it Works

Create an obstacle course using any equipment available. Some ideas include:
- Row of cones to jump / leap over
- Pool noodles suspended in triangle cones (low hurdles)
- Scattered saucer cones (quicksand)
- Hula hoops

Athletes must complete the entire course moving BACKWARDS. Vary locomotion, for example, running, crawling, skating, sliding, wheeling, etc.)

Applications

Balance, body awareness (kinesthesia), core stability, reverse (backwards) locomotor movements

Modifications

Add challenges such as carrying a small medicine ball, balancing a ball on a spoon, balancing a beanbag on their head, and so on to make the challenge more difficult.
